I DO NOT POST SPOILERS IN MY REVIEWS: I didn't care for this as much as some of the other Elvira films. I know part of her schtick is B-movie acting, but the only note she gives for this performance is "annoyed." Even the slapstick didn't land for me.
I have to give this 5 skulls just because it's Elvira and she is always good value. High camp hilarity.
its Elvira! Fun, campy, goody, and relying on stereotypes and cliches. i was a bit thrown seeing that Shudder was showing this film was drom 2022 and kept thinking how ageless Elvira was appearing, and also thinking i had seen this movie before...so a little Google search has shown me this film was actually from 2001.
Loads of fun, lashed with loving yet playful pastiches of classic Gothic horror tales, including everything from the narrative to the production values. Elvira herself is always an absolute scream, and Richard O'Brien is deliciously deranged.
TLDR: It's an Elvira movie (campy), as expected, but still the worst of the Elvira movies. I will be comparing this to Mistress of the Dark if you read on. Environment: In the original movie, Elvira's constantly in different locations, which let's her interact with different characters and have more interesting camera shots. In this movie, Elvira is mostly closed off in a boring castle with the same boring characters. This might be to save budget for the film, but it takes away a lot of Elvira's charm to see how other people react to her. Humor: We all know Peterson is a babe, and her appeal is used in her comedy, but the first film was a bit more tongue and cheek about her hot body, while this one is just constantly in your face about it. Elvira was more self deprecating, and her comedy was also how obnoxious she was and how the characters are annoyed by her, but in this film it's mostly just pointing to her body without the other comedic elements. Elvira herself: It's clear her personality has shifted, as Elvira is more antagonistic in this film. She has weak, fragile, weird characters around her that she either bullies or has some form of authority over. The first film Elvira wasn't as mean spirited and haughty as this one. She is a bit too arrogant, and not as playful. She was always put in bad situations that added to her comedy, but in this one, she is the bad situation herself. Overall, I think this film could have been compressed to a 30 min show, as it drags too long and is not as fun as the original. I hope she does another movie while she still looks good.
