A man begins a relationship with a very deadly female killer in Takashi Miike's ultra-gory masterpiece. Widower Aoyama falls for the radiant and mysterious Asami. But as he delves into her past, he learns her former acquaintances have either gone missing - or have missing limbs. Will he be next? Thanks to its heart-stopping final act, Miike's chilling tale put him in the pantheon of great horror directors, and led to the J-Horror genre becoming a worldwide phenomenon. Scary in a deeply disturbing way, not so much a “sleep with the lights on” way but that’s so hard to pull off, so bravo!! I really hate torture in movies, which is why I put off watching this my whole life, but it wasn’t too bad and IMO not even the scariest part of the movie. Glad I got them courage to finally watch it. As a horror fan who hasn’t seen this, I feel an achievement has been unlocked. (spoiler alert) I think the barf part is WAYYY worse than the needles lol UGHHH I’m sick 😭
Takashi Miike crushes it with this one!
body horror at its finest.
A great brooding horror that doesn't show its hand until you least expect it. 4/5
