Goodnight Mommy

Goodnight Mommy

Directed by Severin Fiala, Veronika Franz

In the heat of the summer lays a lonesome house in the countryside where nine year old twin brothers await their mother’s return. When she comes home, bandaged after cosmetic surgery, nothing is like before and the children start to doubt whether this woman is actually who she says she is. What ensues is a terrifying observational struggle with fatal consequences on par with THE SHINING and DEAD RINGERS.

9 year old twin brothers await their mother’s return home. When she comes home, bandaged after cosmetic surgery, nothing is like before and the children start to doubt whether this woman is actually who she says she is.

Cast: Susanne Wuest, Lukas Schwarz, Elias Schwarz, Hans Escher

Disturbing and well-done. A must-watch.

Ugh. Basically a German remake of A Tale of Two Sisters. Like A Tale of Two Sisters, the "twist" is obvious from the beginning of the film and the "mystery" is created only through the frustrating device of not having any of the characters talk to one another. Also, are those doors that unlock from the inside only with a key actually legal in Europe? It seems like it would go against any common-sense fire code.
