This sort of movie is often not so good, but this is a Guillermo Del Toro film. He doesn’t make ordinary movies. No filmmaker is more attuned to the poetry of the monstrous, and while this movie doesn’t have the art film gloss of some of his other work, it’s no piece of junk. It has the usual trappings of monster/big bug movies, and can be enjoyed as if it’s just a popcorn movie, but for fans of Del Toro there’s something more here.
Toro is such a rich imagination and always can make a new classic. creaure feature love right here.
best killer giant genetically enhanced cockroach movie ever. the idea of genetic experiments getting out of control and turning on us is a very real threat, and this movie exploits that fear in a great way. 3 Skulls for not being afraid to kill the kids, 1 skull for Mr Funny Shoes, -2 Skulls for gratuitous stalagtight cockroach crap.
My favorite GDT movie.
Although this may be against popular opinion, I was never a fan of this movie when it came out and unfortunately I feel that it hasn't aged well. If you specifically like creature features you may still enjoy this one but otherwise move on. 2 skulls. A for effort.
