Directed by Takashi Miike
RAINY DOG, shot entirely in Taiwan, is about an exiled yakuza (DEAD OR ALIVE's Show Aikawa) who finds himself saddled with a son he never knew he had and a price on his head after the Chinese gang he works for decides to turn on him.
A Japanese assassin stranded in Taiwan must take work from a local crime boss to make ends meet when suddenly a woman from his past delivers a son to him.
Cast: Shô Aikawa, Li Wei Chang, Shih Chang
Good movie except its kinda a rip off of "The Killer" which is a Chinese film with almost the exact story line and outcome that came out a decade before this movie lol and it blows this movie out of the park. This movie is the childrens version of that movie, over all definitely worth a watch though
Another great Show Aikawa and Takashi Miike match up. This Japanese movie is set in Taiwan, in a very rainy, Typhoon-season Taipei to be specific. I love this slow burn. It follows a pretty typical story arch of the tough guy who is humbled by the presence of a child. We’ve seen this before. But not in this setting. It makes me miss Taipei. I want to wander around the streets, get a bowl of noodles, and ride on the back of a motor bike through the alleyways. Takes me back. I love Miike.
Great atmosphere-focused crime-drama. Very much a slow-burn, moody type of film. So glad that Shudder has stuff like this in addition to horror!
A beautiful Miike gem, quietly sentimental and violent, good for any yakuza otaku.
I couldn't disagree more with shotdave...
