Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Just...bad. And...weird. Really boring, no real point to it except "this is definitely what would not happen if a new organism was created from human and animal DNA, unless we were a bunch of depraved perverts." totally stupid movie. Skip this one. Also, not scary, at all.

Simple, yet effective sci fi drama with some horror elements towards the end. I absolutely love Sarah Polley and she is excellent as usual in this flick. I just wish they had taken more time and effort to emphasize on her and Brody's characters flaws and emotional issues with each other. There is a switch in focus in the movie that feels forced because we do not know enough of their inner feelings and motivations. To much effort was put on the creature's progress and there is very little to exploit since she is basically an animal with low level intellect. Still, it was nice to see her presence reaffirm and expose the animal side of the human characters. Another flaw is the (to today's standards) atrocious CGI of the earliest Dren scenes. It's cringeworthy although I get that it is necessary in order to keep the budget afloat in an otherwise beautiful movie. Thankfully, after a while an actual actress portrays the creature and by then the movie flows almost perfectly.

If you think this moving is boring then you are a very simple minded person. This movie is amazing.

A very unconventional but thought provoking film. I definitely recommend giving it a watch, particularly if you have an interest in genetic engineering and the moral questions it raises.
