Tigers Are Not Afraid
Directed by Issa López
A haunting horror fairytale set against the backdrop of Mexico’s devastating drug wars, TIGERS ARE NOT AFRAID follows a group of orphaned children armed with three magical wishes, running from the ghosts that haunt them and the cartel that murdered their parents. Filmmaker Issa López creates a world that recalls the early films of Guillermo del Toro, imbued with her own gritty urban spin on magical realism to conjure a wholly unique experience that audiences will not soon forget. Magical Realism fans will devour this one
Not a horror movie in my opinion, but is still a great watch. This movie dives into a raw and tragic reality that many face today. The kids were fantastic actors, the magic portion of the movie wasn't needed though but did add for decent filler. Could've worked more with the spirit realm side of the story to be deemed horror.
The pretentiousness is thick in these parts. Not so much the film itself, but some of these comments are so very precious. I'm sure some actually like this, but you can usually tell a phony by the cliches they spout. This movie isn't horror nor is it enjoyable. Yet some of these "huge horror fans" will tell you how "amazing" it is.
The story of this movie is fairly simplistic but hugely powerful. It's even more dramatic when you know that the kids are not actors. I highly recommend this watch.
Fucking awesome. Not quite horror, I think, though. I think this is more of a drama with horror elements. Still amazing film and great work.
