I would ask why some reviews claim this isn't horror, but I understand that people misunderstand horror to be "scary things happen" when horror as a genre was established in works like this. Slow, disturbing examinations of humanity. Anyway, go into this knowing that it is a certain TYPE of horror, and if that's not your bag, you won't enjoy it, obviously. I personally found it upsetting in precisely the ways I was hoping, and considering the tropes that usually follow with this type of premise, I was surprised by the way the story developed. An unexpected little gem.

Really leans into the parallel of motherhood and feminism. Great acting and a lingering sense of haunt.

I’ll just address the cast/ acting- integral to my enjoyment of movie. Amongst the horror adjacent films on here, 5 skulls of red I giveth.

Really this is a 3 and a half skull movie but I had to make a choice. Fair warning, the film isn't "scary" (nor is it really meant to be) and is more of an unsettling and morbid sci-fi drama. I think the acting was phenomenal and I like the turn where one character makes a truly monstrous decision. If I had a complaint, I feel like the child is more an idea than a character and I wish she was somehow more central to the proceedings (or we could have the child have more scenes early one to contrast who the child was and what she becomes). A very low-key movie. If you are looking for a "boo" movie, this won't be for you but if you want a strong actor's showcase, check this one out.
