Mixed feelings here... definitely a fun sci-fi dystopian classic... But it is in no way scary. However, I enjoyed it and its sequel so much (I’ve seen both twice — rare for me to do that even with somewhat decent movies), so, I can’t not give it 4-stars.

I've been on a Carpenter tear lately and this really is one of his best. Good dystopian future plot, solid action, and decent shots of a walled Manhattan on an obviously modest budget. Snake is a walking cliche but Kurt Russell thoroughly inhabits the character.
