More disjointed than the first but JUST as fun!
I felt gross and miserable watching this. So that's some kind of achievement, I guess.
Visually, the film is stunning – which helped me progress through the movie as I tried piecing together what was actually taking place. It became a 2-way sword though because sometimes the abstraction just wasn't helping the plot, especially as the movie throws in many twists throughout. Many people have also commented on how the film is a far cry from the first, which is true in some ways. It doesn't have the flashy special effect deaths. Or a large ensemble ready to be murdered. But I thought it did take some of the underacknowledged elements from the first and focused the story more heavily on those. Especially that idea of motherhood. I think the film will be enjoyable to people who enjoy j-horror and are looking for a weird, almost art-house movie working inside the frame of a bloody, slow-burn horror flick.
It’s a messy, confusing Film with a bad Protagonist. Not even an Anti-Hero- she’s just unlike able.
I want my 97 mins back
