not bad but the ending is so weird.
It's just... okay. Don't believe the hype until you see it.
This was such a great find. The soundtrack is killer and the opening hooks you immediately. Some high quality Japanese nonsense. A new personal favorite.
I enjoy international horror and Japanese offerings in particular, but this did not work for me. I rarely drop out of bad movies, so I spent a fair amount of the runtime fidgeting and waiting for it to end. I do see the parallels to Italian giallo, and the soundtrack does remind me of one, but the music here was monotonous. I don't require films in the horror genre to make complete sense and I'm willing to allow for bizarre and dream-like movies, but I couldn't get behind this. The characters were bland which makes the pacing even more frustrating, particularly in the first hour. On the positive side. there were a few interesting shots, the initial premise is intriguing, and it gets more interesting in the last thirty minutes. It just wasn't compelling enough to justify the watch. A misfire that I don't recommend.
Great atmosphere, shocking violence, and then keeps topping itself in crazy nonsense. Hated it back when it first came to the states in the vhs days, now it's one of my favorite Japanese horror films. it's one of a kind
