Flowers in the Attic
Directed by Jeffrey Bloom
In this scandalous gothic chiller, four children move in with their evil grandmother, who locks them in the attic and subjects them to a series of terrible torments. Louise Fletcher, famous for her Oscar-winning portrayal of the sadistic Nurse Ratched in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, plays the wicked granny, while original BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER star Kristy Swanson plays granddaughter Cathy. Based on the first of trash novelist V.C. Andrews' wildly popular Dollanganger series, this 1987 adaptation chilled audiences to the bone upon its premiere.

Cast: Louise Fletcher, Victoria Tennant, Kristy Swanson
VC Andrews' hog wild gothic incest melodrama becomes just a plain ol' gothic melodrama in this watchable but not terribly satisfying time waster. The actors look completely lost and the director is clearly a hack.
For some reason, this book was terribly popular with the girls when I was in junior high school. Not sure I can understand why after watching this. The plot is rather sinister and creepy with some fairly twisted hints at darker elements. Unfortunately, this film adaptation is rather blandly filmed like a prime time soap opera and the acting...well...it is atrocious. For the young children, you might be able to forgive it but Fletcher has an Oscar fer christsakes!
Before The Act, there was Flowers in the Attic.
Suspenseful and very chilling, the end was satisfying as hell though
This is one of the best movies you'll see.. espically if you watch the sequel..
