this is a slow burn horror. just to warn folks who dont like that style of horror but otherwise a well shot, well acted creepy and atmospheric horror! the whole family curse angle is very engaging and man did i sympathise with miki ( the woman who makes the paper) she really, i mean really gets dealt a bad hand in life and you will sympathise with her!! plus the other characters are solid and one in particular is a right scumbag. like i said a very solid japanese folk horror film! plus made in 2001! before that sub genre of asian folk horror became popular ( the wailing, the medium). big thumbs up

Looks beautiful. I was aware that curses and the resulting generational trauma play a huge part in Japanese folk horror. This was worth every 120 minutes. And I may rewatch it.

Really very enjoyable. Beautifully shot and edited, great locations. Kind of messy or confusing at times as others have noted, but no less engaging for it. Totally recommend.
