Monument - Dumb as hell! In this absolutely nothing happens film that is at a stop pace, the interns work then work some more and work more then sleep and then work some more. Then right before the ending, there is this super cringe group chant scene. Reminiscent of that video of those crazy liberal women in the forest screaming at Trump with their vaginas. Then the ending comes and.... nothing! Worst movie I have ever seen in my lifetime!
SPOILER WARNING kinda: This movie, although not for everyone due to its slow pacing and hard to follow plot and direction, was a very well done twist on the “They were all dead in the end” trope. It was hard to follow and it felt jumbled because none of it was real. The first clue to this was a crescendo of one when, who I dubbed as Babyface, was whispering to his partner, leading to her freaking out and screaming that they were real, they existed. The entire time, the sickness babyface felt was his real self dying in the real world, in the bus, where everyone else slowly began to deteriorate into their deaths. At first, I thought maybe Babyface was the only one to survive and the cast doing their ritual at the end was his way of waking up, fighting through the death, but I don’t think that was the case as of now. Although a few scenes made me think “they’re all dead aren’t they” it still came as a shock, a subversion of a subversion. It seemed to obvious at first and that’s what made it so surprising. Of course this is just my opinion and my interpretation but it’s art everyone can come to their own conclusions. I also thought it was neat that it was a student project, that was really cool and I’m sure every hand in this project will continue to make great things!
Without looking I can already hear the reviews now "nothing happened" "boring" "not scary" blah blah we get it. Move along. I'm giving this 5 stars because other than The VVitch, nothing has unsettled me more. Truly. Tons of questions. Few answers. Though, I think i understand it. I honestly think it's quite brilliant.
weird man. I almost couldn't get through the first 30min cause it was so boring and didn't look like it was goin anywhere. But then, i couldn't stop watching. cool movie
I like weird.... so I want to say I liked it, because it's definitely that. But I would have liked it more if there was just a bit more... substance to the plot. I didn't understand what was happening but it was entertaining to watch.
