Santa Sangre
Directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky
An armless woman drives her son to kill in Alejandro Jodorowsky's surreal shocker. As a boy, Fenix saw his father cut off his mother's arms, and the resulting trauma sent him to a mental hospital. When mom visits him years later, he escapes, but soon must satisfy her thirst for santa sangre ("holy blood"). Nearly 20 years after he first freaked out filmgoers with the trippy EL TOPO and THE HOLY MOUNTAIN, Jodorowsky returned with this visually stunning film filled with references to classic horror films like THE UNKNOWN, PSYCHO, and EYES WITHOUT A FACE.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE to no end. i get its a little more on the artsy side for most gore hounds but the themes explored are just brutally honest. its rare that a dark flick can really wrap you into its world and make tou feel as if youre in it🌍 but this one really does for me.
Jodorowsky is the goat!
Holy Blood!
Im in love with this movie. It’s beautiful and touching and horrifying and captivating. Characters with depth and unclear intentions. You can’t hate her for wanting autonomy and revenge. You can’t condemn him for loving his mother and wanting to avenge her. You can’t condone his actions or anyone else’s. Pierrot and columbina dance across the Latin American landscape of religious trauma and colonial violence with a passion that can only be Latin American.
I love this movie and Jodorowsky. Violent, twisted and deep- bring El Topo and The Holy Mountain next!! Thank you Shudder!
