Seven Deaths in the Cat's Eye

Seven Deaths in the Cat's Eye

Directed by Antonio Margheriti

Castles, cats, and curses feature in the plot of this gothic Italian horror favorite starring iconic actress Jane Birkin (BLOW-UP). When young Corringa returns from school to her family’s ancestral castle, her arrival sets off a series of murders. It seems within the castle’s walls lurks unspeakable evil and someone with a taste for terror. Is the killer connected to her family’s past? A vampire? Or maybe it’s that odd orangutan... Antonio Margheriti (THE LONG HAIR OF DEATH) draws the mystery out slowly, almost sadistically, before revealing the terrifying truth.

Cast: Jane Birkin, Hiram Keller, Françoise Christophe

if Hammer did a giallo Agatha Christie with a predominately Italian cast & crew set in Scotland & had a gorilla costume they simply had to get some use out of you may, just may,end up with something resembling Seven Deaths in the Cat's Eyes🤔😵‍💫 Preposterous, borderline psychotic, but strangely alluring, despite all it's many shortcomings (primate classification being just one, that is SO not an orangutan, I don't care how many times you say it🤨)including a denouement that seems to have been written as an "oh,that'll do,nobody will care at this point" afterthought,I enjoyed this more than a dozen pretentious willfully obscure contemporary offerings. Perhaps it's the presence of the Beauty & the Beast actual couple Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsborgh (no,really,it's true, look it up!) that means 'Je T'aime' this film. I'll be honest,I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself for that last reference 😏

Enjoyable dark gothic picture, fell flat on its ending.

A entertaining gothic giallo. A tad slow at times but worth your time.

Another film I've wanted to see for a long time-thanks again Shudder. This was great in all its glorious gothic splendour. A somewhat Hammerish, Gialloesque horror. Unintentionally funny at times though a bit slow in terms of the story. Nevertheless fun most of the time. Recommended!

Zero stars for incest, homophobia, and trying to demonise the only likeable character, the adorable fluffy cat, in this dumpster fire of a film.
