Terrifier
Directed by Damien Leone
Brace yourselves as a maniacal clown named Art begins his reign of terror on Halloween night, setting his sights on three young women and anyone else that gets in his way! Move over Pennywise, because there’s a new clown in sight and this one is a thousand times more violent and a million times crueller. 'Terrifier' is a gore-filled, sadistic, twisted, chaotic horror experience not to be missed!

I can see why people enjoy this film, but for me it lacked the substance of the older supernatural slashers (and they were never that substantive). The gore and effects are very well done and the acting is fine, just feels flat and forced. Maybe the series comes into its own in later instalments, but this one didn't entertain me. No real atmosphere, just trying to one up itself on gory deaths that would probably have greater effect in implication, Less isn't always more, but more certainly wasn't the answer here sadly.
Just finished watching it for the first time. Initial impressions: interesting, iconic, and to a degree cliched main character (loss of the ideal mother leads to torture, homicide & cannibalism of women), offset by numerous highly implausible actions of victims. I am aware of particulat tropes being used in homage to the genre in Terrifier but these spoiled what could've been a truly great movie for me, hence the 3 skull-rating.
Loved it!!!
It is great to see a modern independent film breathe life into a tired genre with a truly engaging and entertaining character. It would be easy to think that the days of the charismatic horror character are behind us but the creation of Art proves that audiences are still thirsting for enjoyable carnage with expertly performed menacing monsters! David Howard Thornton takes what could have been just another forgettable slasher and creates something (or someone) truly timeless and unique. The franchise will no doubt be built around this supremely gifted performer and just as there is no Freddy beyond Englund and no Jason beyond Hodder, there will never be an Art without Thornton!
David Howard Thornton deserves all the success this franchise is giving him. It’s no refreshing to see a thespian with such an appreciation for his craft. Kudos to him, hope I get to shake his hand one day.
