The Birds

The Birds

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock

A powerful, terrifying study of paranoia and hysteria in the wake of unexplained chaos, THE BIRDS is one of Alfred Hitchcock's most iconic films. It all begins rather innocuously, as a beautiful, strong-willed socialite (Tippi Hedren, in her film debut) travels to the coastal town of Bodega Bay to hook up with a rugged fellow (Rod Taylor) she's only just met. Once there, however, bizarre things start happening. The birds, you see, are behaving strangely...Using impressive visual effects and creating some of the most iconic and famous staging of his career, Hitchcock delivers one of the most chilling and entertaining classics of all time.

Tippi Hedren as a beautiful blonde who, with her fiance, must fight for her life against a deadly force that can't be explained-or stopped.

Cast: Rod Taylor, Tippi Hedren, Jessica Tandy

This is the only film Hitchcock made that verges on the supernatural. The attack the birds (birds of all kinds) make on the human race is never explained. This is the closest thing he made to a monster movie. And for many people, this is all they think of when they think of Hitchcock. I grew up watching this film, it seemed to be shown more than any other Hitchcock film on TV. And it takes place in Bodega Bay, near my home town. We would go there when we went to the beach. I loved hearing them mention "Santa Rosa". There are odd things about this film. Tippi Hedron seems stiff and her interactions with Rod Taylor do seem poorly written. But something about the artifice of the human relations make the bird attacks seem more real, more terrible. And almost as iconic as the cropduster scene from NORTH BY NORTHWEST and the shower scene from PSYCHO, it the scene in the film of the birds gathering on the jungle gym.

All I have to say is-- that's what that lady gets for being a whole ass stalker. All jokes aside, I can see why this is such an iconic film. However I only gave 4 skulls due to the lack of a conclusion. A bit anti-climactic

You have to remember that this is based on a short story, and these movies were more dialogue-driven back then.
