Creepy and sinister with Lithgow at his best. The horror of helplessness and learned helplessness.
As a movie, I rate this highly, no doubt about it. However I don’t think it fits the genre of horror, or at least, the only horror aspects are violence/abuse and suspense. The acting was fantastic from all of the elderly people, particularly the main 3 men. The plot was slow to unravel, but in a good way; it definitely didn’t drag. The pure misery of the daily torture these elderly people went through both at the hands of their own bodies and the hands of the old psycho was heartbreaking and truly depressing. I loved every minute, and now I know for sure that I would rather die than go in a nursing home.
I knew this would be kick ass as soon as i saw GR was staring. Seamless performances and powerful look into elder abuse. . . . . and an Australian movie (i would give it another star, just for that!).
ok, started slow awhile, thought Lithgow was overplaying it, but rush is so damn good, it all cohered and I loved the ending.
great acting and direction. Made you think what it could be like living in a place like that
