Toad Road

Toad Road

Directed by Jason Banker

A drug-loving couple visit a sinister local spot in this trippy tale of terror that's like a freakish mash-up of SPRING BREAKERS and THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. James is tired of the excessive drug use he and his friends engage in. But when he meets Sara, who wants to delve even deeper, they decide to visit a local spot called Toad Road that's supposed to be the entrance to the Seven Gates of Hell. Writer-director Jason Banker's debut is a unique fusion of documentary-like realism and otherworldly, haunting rural terror - and unlike anything you've ever seen.

Wasn't my thing. Was super bored. No idea why it's considered a "horror" movie.

I hit enter by accident! Anyway, I thought the ended was very unsettling, which to me is great horror! It was so damn creepy at the end...believable imo

I can see that a lot of people here are not happy with this movie because i think the description is a bit misleading, i myself was expecting something much different. With that said though i do not think that this film is a complete waste of time or is garbage like many people are claiming. It's actually pretty realistic in many ways especially if you've ever had friends like the characters in the movie or have experienced the kind of life style portrayed, its spot on in that sense, like scary accurate lol makes you feel like you actually know these people. I understand too that this movie isnt quite a traditional horror movie, lots of people complaining about that, but its still horror just in a different way. And as for the ending i see a lot of disappointed comments, you have to understand that not every ending will be a straight forward answer or conclusion. The ending to this film does make sense, its there its just not handed to you on a platter like most endings. Dont over think it, sometimes endings are so simple that you over see it like this movies ending. And one last thing, i think this filmmaker shows real potential, this movie might not have been a 10 out of 10 perfect film but there is a lot of great camera angles/movements, sounds and creative style to tell a story. I think with a little more of a budget they could make something really great. Although i have to say i do love seeing what indie filmmakers come up with having very low budgets, since i am also one of them lol, its intriguing to see what can be accomplished. Let's not forget everyone that some of the greatest movies ever like Evil Dead were created with very low budgets

I appreciated the realism of the characters and Banker's approach to portraying drug culture. Most of the characters felt like people I knew in my teens and twenties. As others have mentioned, it's more of a mystery/drama with an unsettling atmosphere than a horror film. I do wish Banker offered a little more insight as to what actually happened to the main characters by the end of the movie. Overall, an enjoyable journey of an indie film!
