White God

Directed by Kornél Mundruczó

When young Lili is forced to give up her beloved dog Hagen because its mixed-breed heritage is deemed “unfit” by The State, she and the dog begin a dangerous journey back towards each other. At the same time, all the unwanted, unloved and so-called “unfit” dogs rise up under a new leader, Hagen, the one-time house-pet who has learned all too well from his “Masters” in his journey through the streets and animal control centers that man is not always dog’s best friend.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie but I was not disappointed. It's an excellent movie. It'll piss you off, make you cry and make you go awe, as well as a lot more. There are some really upsetting cringy moments, but thankfully it doesn't show you the every bit of the really bad stuff, it's hard enough to handle without seeing it. Definitely going in my favorites list.

Thought this was a very powerful film. Beautifully shot and a great story! But it wasn't really a horror film. Glad I watched it though.

Worth fast forwarding to the dog parts—the human portions are uneven

I could spend hours praising the amazing dog training that had to go into this because that was just so intense and beautifully filmed. I wouldn't call this a horror film exactly, but the build up was done really well and I became so invested in Hagen's journey. Definitely wouldn't recommend this to those who can't watch animals being harmed in movies. I also have to point out that in the credits they mention the dogs were all adopted to loving families after filming was finished, and that's the most wonderful thing to hear after watching this.

Im conflicted on my review, because was it a good movie? Yes it was amazing and it was shot beautiful and it tells an amazing story. But is it a good horror movie? No, I didn’t feel a single ounce of fear throughout any of this. Good movie overall, but lacks the horror.
